Powwow 101: Part 1 Part 2
Part 3 Part 4

Title:  Powwow 101: A First Nations Documentary

Film Synopsis:

The First Nations Student Group at the University of Washington is composed of over 50 different tribal and indigenous affiliations. This small, dedicated group of native students works hard every year for the Spring Powwow. Entirely run by the First Nations, many people are not aware of the time, effort, commitment, and energy it takes to put on one of the largest powwows in the United States. This time, only two weeks before the powwow, First Nations was told that the Office of Minority Affairs would not support the powwow this year and was asked to downsize the event to one day or better yet, not have it all. This documentary focuses on these students who continue to put on the powwow despite numerous obstacles threatening a 35 year old tradition. Through it all, they become closer as students, friends, and native people overcoming barrier after barrier inside the university system of education.
